Radostin Kirchev (Rado)

Head of Piano
Born in Bulgaria, Teacher Rado began studying the piano at the age of 7 and quickly discovered his passion and talent in music. When he was 11, he performed as a soloist for the first time with the symphony orchestra in his hometown of Stara Zagora. Later on, he appeared as a soloist with professional orchestras in Bulgaria such as the Symphony Orchestra of National Academy of Music and Philharmonic Orchestra of Vidin. He would appear in as many as thirty solo performances or chamber music concerts each summer, touring major cities in Italy and France.

When he was around 10 years old, Teacher Rado participated in his first major piano competition. He went on to win the prestigious “Schumann” Prize at the “Schumann and Chopin” Piano Competition at the National Academy of Music in Sofia, Bulgaria as well as coming in first at the National Competition for Instrumentalists and Singers “Svetoslav Obretenov”, in Provadia, Bulgaria.

Even though Teacher Rado graduated top of his class under the tutelage of Prof. Dimo Dimov at the National Academy of Music “Prof. Pantcho Vladigerov”, Sofia, Bulgaria, obtaining Bachelor and Master Degrees in Piano Performance, he believes that there is always room for him to improve and be better. As such, he explored opportunities to learn from the best talents around the world, including well-known pianists such as Aldo Ciccolini, Fabio Bidini, Einar-Steen Nokleberg, Markus Tomas and Arkadi Zenziper. 

For Teacher Rado, his role as an educator provides him with immense satisfaction. Since moving to Singapore in 2012, he has nurtured a generation of young pianists who have distinguished themselves and won numerous prizes in piano competitions around the world, including Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, France, Poland, UK and USA. One of his students came in second in the junior category at the National Piano and Violin Competition in 2015. He feels really proud that some of his old students have gone on to become educators, carrying on his legacy. His dedication and accomplishment as a teacher is internationally recognised. He was recognised for his outstanding commitment to music education and students’ achievement by the American Association for Development of the Gifted and Talented (AADGT). 

Teacher Rado is currently the head of the piano department at Asia Music School. 

John Chen Dong

Senior Piano Instructor
Teacher John Chen was raised in a family of accomplished musicians. His father was the principal oboist in the Shaan’Xi Symphony Orchestra and his mother was an opera vocalist. He completed his music education at the Xi’an Conservatory of Music in China.
 
Teacher John Chen is an established concert pianist and has worked with orchestras in Singapore and China. He gave his first major piano recital at the age of 15. He counts the late renowned Austrian pianist Maestro Paul Budura-Skoda as one of his many mentors. In 1995, he was invited by the former conductor of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra Maestro Choo Huey to be the orchestral pianist. In 2017, his alma mater the Xi’an Conservatory of Music offered him a position as the Assistant Conductor and piano accompanist for the youth choir at the conservatory.
 
In early 2021, Teacher John Chen brought his wealth of musical expertise to Asia Music School and joined us as a senior piano instructor.

Alexander Lock Kah Boon

Piano Instructor
Kah Boon graduated with a Bachelor of Music with Honours from Middlesex University, London in 2017 and joined us in the same year. During his time in London, Kah Boon also volunteered as a teacher assistant at Barnet Education Trust, where he assisted music instructors with coaching children during lessons and performance rehearsals. 
 
Kah Boon is an energetic and patient individual who enjoys working with children. During his stint as a teacher assistant, he planned several activities and games for young students in music schools. In addition, Kah Boon has also played at various events, including piano accompaniments for choir performances in London and Malaysia, as well as a solo piano performance that was held at the Yamaha Festive Hall, Kelana Jaya, Malaysia in 2016.
 
With his outgoing personality, Kah Boon hopes to bring joy and fun for his students as they embark on their journey to learn music. 

Ng Sze Ling (Selena)

Piano Instructor
Teacher Selena graduated with a Bachelors in Music (Hons) in Performance Study from the University of West London in 2021. In 2013, she completed her diploma in piano performance and received her ATCL (Associate of Trinity College London) diploma within a short span of a year and went on to graduate from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) with a Diploma in Music Performance in 2019. She also boasts a wealth of experiences in piano performance, having performed at festivals such as the Asia International Piano Academy & Festival at Ewha Woman University in Korea.

Teacher Selena started teaching at Asia Music School since 2015. She believes that practice makes perfect and that music can change our lives for the better. It is never too late to learn ; if you believe you can, you can! 

She is currently pursuing her postgraduate studies in Master of Music from the University of West London under the tutelage of Dr. Paul Liang. 

Iola Iskandar

Piano Instructor
Teacher Iola started learning the piano at the tender age of 3.5 years in her home country, Indonesia. She participated in national music competitions since she was 10 years old and has won several prizes as a young pianist. In 2020, she graduated with a Diploma in Music Performance from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. 

Teacher Iola already has a few years of experience teaching piano before joining Asia Music School in 2021. She specialises in working with young children, some as young as 2.5 years old. To deepen her keen interests in working with young child, Teacher Iola attended a 16-week long course in Dalcroze Eurhythmics, exploring music in a creative and experiential way and participated in workshops on Kodaly and music pedagogy for young children. 

Skaidrite Rakovska (Skai)

Violin Instructor
Teacher Skai has been with Asia Music School since July 2015 as our resident violin instructor. Born in Latvia, a country with a rich musical culture, Skai picked up the violin at age 5, and has since completed her studies at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatoire under the tutelage of renowned musicians, including Igor Bezrodny and Dmitry Shebalyn.
 
Skai has performed solo and as a member of chamber and symphonic orchestras in over 20 countries in Europe and America. Winners of national and international competitions and performing orchestra members number among her students. Her younger students here have been awarded at the Young Talents Project held by Radio 92.4 FM and have also been invited to perform as part of the Kids’ Philharmonic Orchestra Singapore.

Mukhammadyor Tulaganov (Dyor)

Violin Instructor
 
Teacher Dyor started studying the violin at age 5 in Uzbekistan and had won many top prizes in national music competitions back home. Most recently in 2017, he came in second at the Golden Classical Music Awards International Competition in New York, USA.
Teacher Dyor began formal musical training at the Academic Lyceum of Talented Children at the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan. Later, he was awarded a full scholarship to study at the prestigious Yong Siew Toh Conservatory under the tutelage of Professor Zhang Manchin. He has participated in viola masterclasses taught by renowned musicians such as Paul Silverthorne, Igor Naidin, Cynthia Phelps and Alexander Mishnaevskiy.

As a musician, he has performed all over the world from Germany, Norway, USA to Hong Kong and South Korea with orchestras in the region.

Teacher Dyor will be training Asia Music School’s students in the Talented Young Violinist course.

Gayane Vardanyan

Voice/Piano Instructor

Teacher Gayane graduated from the  well-known R. Melikian Music College in 1981 with a Master’s degree in Voice and Piano. It was a highly competitive music college where only 16 students out of 400 were selected each year. Teacher Gayane was invited to audition as one of the professors at the music college felt that she had a unique voice, with great potential. The rest as they said is history.

After graduation, Teacher Gayane went on to work for A. Spendiaryan Opera and Ballet National Academic Theatre as a soloist and soprano for 21 years. She also worked at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory as a singer for the piano department.

 

A remarkable vocalist, Teacher Gayane continues to perform regularly around the region today. One of her most memorable concerts in recent years was when she was invited to perform in Jakarta. Singers from ten countries were invited and Teacher Gayane felt honoured to represent Armenia. Her performance of the aria “Un bel di vedremo” from Puccini’s Madama Butterfly earned her outstanding reviews from the dignitaries in attendance. 

In 2011, Teacher Gayane started teaching in Singapore. Many of her students have achieved distinctions and awards from various examination boards and national competitions in Singapore. She uses her own pedagogy that she internalised during her study with various professors in the past to train her current students. 

Teacher Gayane teaches voice and piano in Asia Music School today.

Louise Manuel

Voice/Piano Instructor

In 2018, Teacher Louise graduated Cum Laude from the University of the Philippines College of Music with a Bachelor of Music, majoring in Voice Performance and minoring in Piano. She began her career as a voice and piano teacher in Singapore soon after.

As a professional Soprano, Teacher Louise has performed with various vocal ensembles in international choral festivals and competitions around the world including the Philippines, Indonesia and even Spain! She has been awarded several prizes, including the category winner in several of these competitions.

Working with advanced voice students specialising in both classical and pop genre, right down to young toddlers exploring the foundations of music, Teacher Louise is patient and dedicated. To ensure efficient sound production and to care for the vocal health of her voice students, Teacher Louise decided to further her training and undergo certification as a McClosky Voice Technician. She is also an avid song writer.

John Lim Yao Han

Piano/Voice Instructor
Teacher John Lim has been working with children as young as 3 years old in music exploration classes since 2014. An effective educator with immense patience and empathy, he is able to engage and impart essential musical skills to his young students in both group and one-to-one settings.

After graduating with a Diploma of Music in Classical Voice at the Malaysia Institute of Arts, Teacher John Lim began teaching in Singapore soon after. He has toured with choral groups around Malaysia and won prizes in choral competitions in the region.

Teacher John Lim strives to ignite his students’ interests and passion in music by making every lesson unique and constantly searching for performance opportunities for his students. Depending on interests and skillsets, he would recommend the appropriate examination board to enable the child to maximise his musical potential.

Peh Shi Hong

Piano/Voice Instructor

Teacher Shi Hong graduated with a Bachelor of Classical Music in Performance from UCSI University in 2018. There, he also received his ATCL diploma under the tutelage of his piano professor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cheong Yew Choong. Following his graduation, Teacher Shi Hong continued studying piano with renowned Malaysian concert pianist Mr. Ng Chong Lim.


Teacher Shi Hong was the runner-up in the Open Solo category and first prize winner in the Piano Duet category in a piano competition hosted by the Malaysian Youth Orchestra Foundation (MYOF) in 2015. He has performed at Steinway and Sons Piano Exhibition and served as an accompanist in masterclasses, recitals, and competitions. 

Besides piano studies, Teacher Shi Hong also took classical vocal lessons as his minor study at University, under Professor Ian Lim Kean Seng and then with Mr. Tan Chee Seng. A bass-baritone, Teacher Shi Hong has taken part in vocal/choral competitions and performed notable works with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO).

Zaid

Piano/Flute Instructor
Zaid embarked on his musical journey at the age of eight when he had his first flute lesson. Throughout his formative years, he actively participated in various musical capacities as a flutist, vocalist, and pianist. He obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Classical Flute Performance from the prestigious National Academy of Arts, Culture, and Heritage (ASWARA). During his time at ASWARA, he also fulfilled the requirements of the piano syllabus, treating it as a minor instrument. Zaid began his teaching career during his college years, offering flute and basic piano lessons. Furthermore, he showcased his flute skills by performing as a flutist in multiple orchestras in Malaysia and Thailand. 

Currently, Zaid is a full-time instrumental teacher, specializing in vocal, piano, and flute lessons. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he continues to engage in performances as a vocalist, choir member, flutist, and keyboardist at corporate events, weddings, and international choir competitions.

Chan Yeow Yee

Erhu Instructor
Yeow Yee is our resident Erhu instructor, having joined us after graduating from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts with a Bachelor (Hons) in Music, majoring in Erhu. While at NAFA, Yeow Yee was under the tutelage of renowned musicians Li Bao Shun and Wong Sun Tat. 
 
Yeow Yee previously performs as a Erhu player in a Orchestra in 2010 and was awarded the Certificate of Distinction in National Chinese Music Competition in 2008. She has participated in the Llangollen Music Festival, held in Llangollen, Wales, in 2009, and has also toured Taiwan and Malaysia as a performer. 
 
Yeow Yee also has an ABRSM Grade 8 Certification in Piano and Theory. She seeks to pass on her wealth of musical knowledge to her students who range in experience from beginners to those preparing for their diplomas.

Lan Zhao Xia

Guzheng Instructor
Teacher Lan started learning Guzheng when she was 5 years old. Since 2016, she started teaching Guzheng in various music schools in Sichuan province, China. Her students have participated in the examinations held by the renowned China Conservatory of Music and the Sichuan Music Association.
 
A committed teacher, Teacher Lan was awarded for her teaching excellence by different institutions in Beijing and Sichuan, including being inducted into the national teaching excellence programme by the prestigious Central Conservatory of Music in China. Many of her students have participated in performances and competitions across the country.
 
Teacher Lan enjoys working with students of all ages from young children to working adults. 

Asswero

Guitar/Drum Instructor
Asswero embarked on his music journey at the age of 12, focusing on the guitar. He pursued his passion further by graduating from the University of Malaysia Sarawak, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Music with a specialization in Classical Guitar.

Throughout his upbringing, Asswero actively participated in performances as a guitarist, including recitals, Trace Concerts at the University Malaysia Sarawak, and Convocation Orchestra. Notably, he was honored with an award for his exceptional composition in one of the best Final Year Projects. Additionally, Asswero broadened his musical skills by completing the drum syllabus as a minor instrument.

Asswero's teaching experience is extensive. From an early age, he began teaching at a kindergarten school. Currently, he is a dedicated full-time teacher at Asia Music School, where he imparts his knowledge and expertise through guitar and drum lessons.

Farhan

Guitar/Drum Instructor
Farhan is an accomplished Music Instructor with a diverse background in performing, composing, and teaching. He holds a Diploma in Songwriting and Music Production from the esteemed SCHOOL OF MUSIC AND THE ARTS (SOMA) in Singapore. Notably, Farhan has achieved significant milestones in his career, including the production and composition of multiple tracks in Singapore's music industry.

With extensive experience in performing, Farhan's versatility as a musician shines through. He has delighted audiences at various events, including wedding celebrations, corporate shows, and major festivals held at prestigious locations such as Esplanade and Resort World Sentosa. Farhan has successfully produced and recorded his album 'Bebas' along with numerous singles, garnering recognition from the local media. His songs have been played on popular radio stations such as Ria 89.7FM, and he has been invited to showcase his talent on Suria, a local TV channel. Farhan's exceptional abilities were acknowledged when he was voted as the Best Guitarist in the Song Composing Club during his time at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Furthermore, he served as the events and welfare manager for Jammerz Arena at Republic Polytechnic during his tertiary education. In 2013, Farhan and his band OutCry emerged victorious in a competition organized by Hard Rock Cafe, earning them the opportunity to represent Singapore in the Global Round.

Currently, Farhan holds a prominent position on the faculty of Asia Music School, where he imparts his expertise as a Guitar, Ukulele, and Bass Teacher. His passion for music and dedication to teaching make him an invaluable asset to the institution.

Nikolaos Smyrnakis

Senior Piano Instructor
Nikolaos Smyrnakis, an alumnus of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, holds a Bachelor of Music (BMus Honours) and a Postgraduate Diploma in performance. While actively engaged in performances encompassing solo and accompaniment with various instruments, ensembles, and choirs in Europe and Singapore, his primary focus lies in nurturing students' musicianship through a comprehensive approach that emphasizes both technical and musical development. With a profound understanding of all aspects of the instrument, ranging from Baroque to 20th-century and contemporary music, he strives to impart a holistic understanding to his students.

At the core of Nikolaos' teaching philosophy is the aim to make students self-reliant in their practice, encouraging them to reach for higher aspirations. He boasts extensive experience in preparing students of all levels for examinations with a remarkable 100% success rate. Additionally, he helps students prepare for university entry and participation in various international competitions. As a versatile pianist, Nikolaos excels as a chamber music partner and an experienced piano accompanist. He remains committed to his own growth and continuous learning as a musician.

Haryani Haryanto

Piano Instructor
Haryani Haryanto, also known as Teacher Yannee, was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 1996. Her musical journey began at the age of 7 when she commenced her piano lessons at a local music tuition center. With a growing interest in music, she decided to undertake the ABRSM exam in 2009, where she achieved the distinction of being featured in the High Scorers' Concert. Subsequently, she pursued her music studies at Singapore Raffles Music College in 2016.

During her time in college, Haryani had the opportunity to participate in master classes offered by prestigious institutions such as Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, as well as London College of Music. Additionally, she actively took part in competitions and Cultural Arts Festivals before successfully graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance from the University of West London (UWL) in 2019.

Since 2019, Haryani has been dedicated to teaching at a music school in Singapore, where she has worked with students as young as 4 years old. She has guided her students in various performances and prepared them for ABRSM theory and practical exams, consistently achieving a minimum Merit result. Her dedication to her students' progress is evident, and she takes great care in ensuring their growth and development.

In 2023, Haryani joined the esteemed faculty at Asia Music School, where she continues to inspire and nurture her students' musical abilities, providing them with dedicated support and guidance.
